Thursday 13th July - walk *** Fingringhoe Nature Reserve - mainly cloudy
with some showers .
With Mag having an appointment in Colchester to have her broken arm
accessed at 12.30 it gave me time to do my exercises, started off in the
garden but then the light rain arrived! I then packed a picnic and we
headed over to Colchester, the Doctors visit went well and then we headed
over to Fingringhoe Nature Reserve for a picnic in the van. We then did a
circuit of the reserve hoping the rain would stay away which it did. Not as
good as the first visit here, summer walking is hard, much too hot with
everything grown up so not much wildlife to be seen and another venue with
some dodgey sculpture! It is a beautiful spot on the banks of the River
Colne with views up to Brightlingsea, the tide was out but not many waders
just a few Godwits in full ginger colour:) We did spot some rabbits, a
squirrel, loads of magpies, several lapwings, more godwits, a little grebe,
some young moorhens and a couple of egrets visiting several of the hides.
It was very peaceful and quiet, only seeing two people on our walk:) Back
to the van for a welcome cuppa before heading off to Fingringhoe village
spotting a Great Egret and down to the Ferry opposite Wivenhoe, with the
tide really low I got some nice moody pics with a menacing sky! Then onto
Rowbridge, also by the Colne, continuing to Colchester and home, the
journey home was surprisingly easy with no hold up and fairly light
traffic.
The forecast for the next three days is looking horrendous with super
strong winds and rain so not sure if I will get out sailing or not?
